The function to synchronize your journal to your computer (in clients like Logjam and Semagic) is temporarily disabled, until we work with the Semagic author to fix up that client. Other unsupported/unendorsed parts of Semagic (like comment scraping) we'll work on disabling, but in the meantime please don't use those Semagic features.
We'll also be making syncitems more efficient on our side, in case people write future buggy clients which hit us too hard. (Semagic was actually working around the automatic "Your syncitems client is busted" error message we were sending to it)
Our plan is to keep per-user backup files on the server, instead of system-level, so we could give users direct access to those, without hitting our databases. Imagine being able to quickly download a DBM and/or XML file of all your posts, comments, settings, etc... And give clients access to retrieve it as well. That's the plan. And because of this latest problem with Semagic, that plan just got accelerated.
In other good news, the site should be fast now and tomorrow.
