My apologies for the somewhat long hiccup on the paid members service today. It should be fixed now.
We had set username.livejournal.com to hit the fast servers whether or not the viewer was paid, so those with paid accounts would still have their journals viewable to friends if the free servers were slow.
However, a search engine went rogue just now and tried indexing the entire calendar views on all of the paid accounts it found. I have firewalled off the offending search engine service and will continue to monitor LJ in case it happens again. IP-based rate limiting will also help prevent this from happening again.
Also, yeah, we know the free servers are slow at peak hours sometimes again. We did buy new machines nearly two weeks ago, and they have started to arrive.
Update: More issues, I guess. I'm working on fixing the routing for paid members to the paid servers. Keep an eye on http://status.livejournal.com for info.
Update again: Looks like it's fixed now. ALL PAID MEMBERS: You need to log out and in again to hit the fastservers (I know, I'm sorry. Something was broken and the cookies weren't getting set up right.) It should work now. Zoom zoom fast service (I hope.)
