On Friday, November 18th we will be flipping the switch to direct all traffic to our San Francisco data center. The work will begin shortly before midnight Pacific Time (UTC/GMT -8) and will last for 2 hours, stretching into the morning of Saturday, November 19th. During this time whole or parts of the site may be inaccessible to users. We're doing prep work until then and follow-up work afterward, and while we're trying to make it the least noticeable to users there is the chance we may experience some unexpected turbulence. We'll be providing updates here as well as at status.livejournal.org.
Important note: When we flip the switch on November 18th, we will be using a new IP. For users who are using our domain aliasing feature to map a domain to their journal, please check and see if you're using an A Record or a CNAME to point the domain to LiveJournal. If you're using an A Record, you will need to point it our new IP address or switch to using a CNAME. We are trying to identify you all individually and email you with details. We'll also post here again soon with the new IP. CNAME's will be unaffected by the IP change.
And, yes, before you ask, there are hundreds of trained monkeys involved in the move. We live for this stuff.
