Paid compensation for site downtime

As many of you are aware, LiveJournal underwent an attack last week which resulted in some downtime and caused other accessibility issues during this time. While the attack is over, some intermittent issues remain which we are in the process of fixing.

We want to take this time to let paid members know that we will be extending your paid time by 2 weeks if you had a paid account at any time between July 25th and July 31st. This time will be added to your account a few days from now. Thank you for your continued patience while we get the site back to normal.

What about permanent members and downtime?

As usual that does nothing for permanent members. Can we please have a few icon slots? Anything? We could not access the site either and that was also frustrating. You are not serious.

This is totally frustrating.

And don't say that permanent members don't deserve compensation for the same frustrations that everyone else have. That is just not true. This has been just as frustrating for me as anyone else...

LJ always forgets this level of member when it does this kind of thing.
tbh i'd like paid time i could pass on to others.

Thank you and I agree, the permanent accounts should get something as well.
Why? We were inconvenienced, sure, but so was everyone else, including basic/plus account users. We didn't lose money, which is what paid users are being compensated for.

This is why I faithfully stick to LJ and don't jump ship to Dreamwidth or whatever...I know no site has perfect up-time but that in my view LJ takes good care of its users. I'll be happy to re-up my paid account soon! :)

If it's a plain-old DDoS attack, security shouldn't factor into anything, really. DDoS attacks simply overwhelm a website with more traffic than it can handle.
